Charles Adams married Sarah "Sally" Smith in a double wedding ceremony with her sister at First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, New York in 1795[1]. Her sister was Margaret Smith who married Felix Leblond de St. Hilaire[1]. Sally and Margaret Smith had a brother, William Smith, was married to Charles Adam's sister, Abigail Adams so in essence, Charles married his sister's sister-in-law.Sarah, Margaret and William Smith were three of the ten children of John Smith and his wife , Margaret Stephens[2]. They lived in New York where their father was a merchant[1]

He and Sarah had two daughters, Susannah and Abigail.[1]
