Note 1

Revolutionary War Veteran

My 6x great grandfather AND also my great aunt’s 5th great grandfather

familysearch.org:

° John Waldo (sometimes referred to as "Deacon John") of Windham fought in the Revolutionary War [source: Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR Genealogical Research Databases, database online, www.dar.org], as did a number of his siblings.

°John's marriage year is 1750 or 1751 in Windham Ct.

°John lived in New York at the time of the Revolution, and later moved to Virginia with his son John.

°John served as a Private in the Albany County militia under Colonel Peter Yates [ source, more info at DAR site].

°There is no brother of this John Waldo named David. His siblings were William Shuball Waldo, Edward Waldo Jr. Ann Waldo, Cornelius Waldo, Bethuel Waldo, Thankfull Waldo, Joannah Waldo, and Zacheus Waldo.

There is definitely some confusion around the "taught medicine by Indians" bit. No tribe is mentioned, & his son, John J. Waldo Jr. has "was captured by Indians & taught medicine" in his Life Sketch, which I find no evidence for. I do find a lot of us in Oklahoma who were told we were Indians or were somehow connected, and it has become family lore.
